BLENHEIM PALACE, 1 NOVEMBER 1997

“As closer and clearer and louder and nearer...”
I struggled through the fight sequence, but Lisa kept me on track and we maintained continuity.  You've probably seen “out takes” from television shows where characters flubbed their lines, so you know that scenes are sometimes filmed many times over, picked up after lunch or even weeks later to be inserted into the final show.  There'd be no after lunch or tomorrow for us, so we had to do all our pickups right on the spot.  Happily, the end result is seamless, thanks to the excellent editorial staff at Lip Sync, Ltd. in London.

In this hybrid between live theater and video production, my performance was the paramount concern.  In Act IV, when for a time I moved further downstage than had been anticipated and the lighting was marginal, Peter Anderson decided NOT to stop the show to reset the lighting, but pushed the cameras to their limits to let my performance go uninterrupted.  The crew may have squirmed from time to time, but by all accounts, the audience remained spellbound.
