Paul
Duffie, Chief Administrator of Blenheim Palace, suggested that I have Life
Guard Trumpeters play fanfares to announce my arriving guests. I'd
seen “the Trooping of the Colours” on the Queen's birthday and even visited
“Horse Guards,” their barracks in London, so I was not entirely unfamiliar
with the Household Cavalry — and certainly aware of the Household to which
it belongs. But Mr. Duffie was quite serious and, barring war or
a previous royal commitment, assured me that the Life Guard would oblige.
After all, His Grace, the Duke of Marlborough, had served in the Life Guard
and the event was for Save the Children.
The
Life Guard Trumpeters were a huge hit with my guests. Our thanks
to post production supervisor Philip Moores, who extracted this still from
a bit of digital video shot as Lynn Redgrave and Lady Redgrave (Rachel
Kempson), arrived at the Great Hall. |
